More Bah Humbug From The Pit

“Corruption Brewing?

Gormley denies conflict as town officials, in effect, write themselves checks.

Dear Selectman Gormley,

I hereby disclose and claim that a conflict of interest exists among yourself , Mr. Desmarais and Mr. Paul Perrotti in the signing and approving of checks that cover your own disbursements or those in those relationships prohibited in theCharter . Please investigate this matter.

DeAngelis

Actually, Tom , it is not a "statement"  per se, it is an accusation

of wrongdoing that I'm asking you to investigate.”

Corruption is not brewing, but stupidity certainly is, and all of it seems to be coming from the “Pit.”

Mr. DeAngelis continues to appear to be accusing Tom Gormley and Bob Desmarais of corruption, when of course none exists. Mr. DeAngelis seems to have little understanding how Town government works and how funds are paid out. Instead of learning the facts, he suggests that the Selectmen are doing something inappropriate and he also encourages local reporters to join him at tilting at windmills. They are not taking the bait.

Since it is the role of the Selectmen to sign all checks derived from Town funds, would it not be a conflict of interest to sign their own paychecks?  Apparently it would to Mr. DeAngelis. It is simply idiotic.

But, the truth is that Mr. DeAngelis does not really believe there is corruption here.  That is why he puts a question mark after all of the inane statements.  These statements are made as an attempt to make Tom Gormley and Bob Desmarais look bad, and at the same time take the story off Mr. St. John.

Tom, isn't it time you stopped with the girlie, Obama thing of blaming all your screw ups on the previous administration? Be a man,Tom and face your responsibilities. Stop taking "it's his fault, wah-wah" lessons from Perrotti. Be a man not a half-selectman.”

I don’t believe Tom was being girlie when he pointed out that Ed St. John, and Tom Proulx collected fire pay from the checks they signed when they were Selectmen.  I think the intent was to show that this is certainly nothing new. Mr. DeAngelis believes that all Middlebury history started on the First week of December in 2007.

“Actually the article decried the lack of para medics. Why don't we just let Campion come to Middlebury with their para medics. Why duplicate the service when we don't have para medics? If you are going to quote the newspaper, be accurate.”

Perhaps if you are going to comment on the article you should consider some sort of accuracy yourself. Read the article again.  The article talks about how there is a lack of EMT-B volunteers, not paramedics. By the way Mr. DeAngelis, paramedics is not spelled para medics.

If Mr. DeAngelis had understood the fairly straight-forward article, he would have realized that the MVFD actually saves the taxpayers at least $350,000 per year in ambulance services. There is no duplication of services.  The MVFD pays $80,000 each year for paramedic services, and not one dime of that comes from taxpayer money.  It all comes from ambulance billing.  Conversely, if the MVFD were to drop the ambulance billing, the residents would be responsible for a whopping Campion paramedic bill, and Campion would not be forgiving if your insurance company did not pick up the tab.

It is in the best interests of the taxpayers to have FD 11 roll to every call. There is no denying that. If FD 11 does not roll, and you need a paramedic, you will be stuck with the entire paramedic bill, instead of the MVFD picking up the tab.  That is why the MVFD needs residents to dedicate their time and volunteer for the ambulance.

However, when there is an ambulance call, the Middlebury Taxpayer is not the MVFD’s number one priority. At that point, the patient is more important. That is why 85% of the members voted to purchase the First Responder vehicle with non-taxpayer money.  The First Responder vehicle will help to ensure that there will be a trained EMT or MRT at the scene to assist our police officers if FD 11 cannot scramble a crew. PATIENT CARE IS THEIR NUMBER 1 PRIORITY.

“b.   Secondly if there was a competent, respected Fire Chief in

Middlebury I doubt you would have any problem recruiting

volunteers for the dept.  Given the authority I will address that

problem quickly.

c.    I would immediately stop using junk cars with untrained "fly"

operators and in doing so would stop embarrassing the citizens of

the town and would attract more volunteers.

The MVFD Chief with the possible exception of Rich Nicol is the highest trained Chief who ever held the position, and the highest trained firefighter in the organization.  He is more than competent to serve as Chief.  The constant attacks simply illustrate the ignorance of the attacker. Again, Mr. DeAngelis did not read the article very well.  The shortage of EMTs is a nation-wide problem and certainly not restricted to Middlebury.  In fact, the MVFD should be commended in that they are trying to find ways of mediating the problem with the least impact on our taxpayers.  The MVFD purchased the First Responder vehicle with their own money and will be purchasing a municipal license plate with their own money.  This will cost the Department $400.00 per year.  By purchasing the plate, the First Responder Vehicle will come under the Town's municipal insurance policy. The only cost to the Town will be FUEL.  This is a small price to pay for attempting to improve patient care.

“Really, Tom? What about:

      on July 6, 2008 Bob Desmarais received $ 2402.71, M. Dayton,

$ 1,018.17, on July 6,2008 Paul Perrotti got 2476.00 above his

$ 7500.00 stipend, above his free car and free gas and on and on.

Where is the "volunteer" in the Middlebury Volunteer Fire Dept?

Tom, you don't get it. Even President Bush rescinded a pardon

because of the "appearance of impropriety". You cannot allow

yourself and others to sign checks that put money in your pocket or

in the pockets of family members. It is really very simple to

understand. Isn't it?”

It is simple to understand, but apparently not simple enough for Mr. DeAngelis.  There is no impropriety at all. Here is how it works.  Bob Desmarais would not receive a single dime if he did not attend fire calls.  Neither would Mike Dayton, nor Paul Perrotti. There is a very small group of really active Middlebury Firefighters.  My records show that there are only four members of the Department that make over 50% of the calls.  Both Paul Perrotti and Bob Desmarais are included in that 4.  Mike Dayton is close behind and is an extremely dedicated young member.  You didn’t mention Jon Vaughan who comes in at number 3 with 63% of the calls.  What about me?  I am fleecing the Town responding to over 70% and coming in at #2.  How can that be allowed?

Fire pay is earned Mr. DeAngelis.  I doubt seriously many people would run into a burning building for $6.00. The argument is stupid.  Mr. DeAngelis knows it stupid, and he embarrasses himself running with the torch of Mr. St. John, attempting to invent a controversy and create a sense of chaos where none exists.

“By remaining an active member of the Fire Dept or any town agency, takinng an active part and accepting money restricts elected officials in  their ability to serve the citizens at large. For example, if there is an issue regarding payment for MVFD expenses from Town funds, vs. MVFD funds, a vote to spend Town funds benefits the members of the MVFD at the expense of all the citizens of Middlebury."

More bull.  Any funds that are paid from Town funds to the MVFD or its members is for the expressed intend to benefit the entire community. No one at the MVFD is getting rich by volunteering their time and jeopardizing their lives.  In fact, we all loose lots of money by doing so.  $6.00 per call (not per hour)  is no way to get rich.  It helps buy a few Christmas presents in December. Thats about it.

“Half Chief tries to stop delivery delivery of Christmas Carols to Middlebury homes.”

Mr. DeAngelis again tries to act like he has an understanding of the MVFD, when he clearly illustrates that no understanding exists.

Christmas Rounds by the MVFD is not a caroling event, and if you have ever heard us sing, you would certainly understand why. The MVFD members are not visiting shut-ins and lonely people to spread the Christmas cheer.  They are visiting each other’s homes and creating their own cheer. Thats it.

Content on OMP, aside from the occasional truth and fact, is mostly fictional. Depictions of public figures are for satirical and humor value only and are not intended to slander or insult. Our aim is to amuse and poke fun, not publish libel. Any and all other figures featured on our site, aside from public figures, are fictional characters. Any likeness or similarity that they may have to persons living or dead is coincidence”

There is nothing true about anything written on the Pit.  It is fictitious, but not for satirical or humorous reasons. It’s only intent is to try to hurt good and honest people who dedicate their time trying to make Middlebury a better place to live.  It ridicules those who do the most for this community and libels them at every opportunity.  It serves no positive purpose, yet seeks to create an atmosphere of distrust and chaos.

There is nothing amusing about hurting other people’s feelings, and ridiculing those who have spent years protecting the residents. Mr. DeAngelis talks about the Christmas holiday.  (By the way Mr. DeAngelis, it WAS the Romans who killed Jesus you know.) He talks about Christianity. I just find this hypocritical for someone who appears to spend a good part of his time maligning the good deeds of others. As someone on this blog has, already suggested, that would be the task for his Priest to undertake.  If not, what Mr. DeAngelis really needs is a visit from Jacob Marley’s ghost. Merry Christmas. The Christmas truce did not last until the 12th night, but who would have thought it would?

Hypocrite or Puppet?

Maybe both. Pattie goes on and on about $6 per call fire pay. Calls it "corruption". Coins a new juvenile taunt: "half selectman" to go along with "half chief". All we need now is nyah! nyah!

Nowhere is there mention of the $950,000 that Eddie misappropriated. Nowhere is there mention of the Straw Pond property that was sold at 1996 prices to developers. Nowhere is there talk of the sewers and roads that were build for free by Eddie. Those real crimes are still unsolved Pattie!

Nope. Not interested. We focus all our attention on $6 fire calls and call it major corruption day after day. Completely ignored are the huge elephants of genuine corruption walking around - Eddie and the MRTC.

And what about our girl rats? Isn't their court date coming up? That isn't being reported in OMP either. Why is that, I wonder?

Could it be hypocrisy? I think so.

Anonymous said...

Pattie failed to report that Tommy would not automatically reappoint people to Town Commissions. Remember back when the MRTC used to "reappointed itself?" Not any more. Tommy told the press last week that he wanted to see "more resumes" before appointing anybody to a board or commission.

That does not sound like corruption to me. In fact, it sounds like "a new view from the hill" and it was done with absolutely no help from the MRTC and no coverage by OMP.

More indisputable evidence that Pattie is a hypocrite and a puppet of Eddie.

Thumbs up to Jaimie Cura

Thumbs down to Matt O'Rourke

Once again Matt O'Rourke, reporter for the Republican American, has proven to be a great friend of Pat Deangelis by covering the Selectmens meeting and only mentioning the "fly car" so that Pattie can go off on another rant. O'Rourke fails to mention anything about Gormley's strong position on automatic reappointments.

Far more fair and balanced, Jaimie Cura of Voices gave a full report of the Selectmens meeting and included this excellent piece about Tom Gormley:

In other news, the board did not take action on four reappointments to town commissions: Mark Capodanno, Raymond Caruso and Charles Rossi to the Public Works Commission, and Terry Smith to the Planning and Zoning Commission.

Mr. Gormley said that from this point forth, the Board of Selectmen wants to see qualifications of people interested in serving or being reappointed to commissions.

"I'd like to get resumes and do a bit more evaluation, instead of just rubber-stamping these,"
he said.

Mr. Gormley said he wants to be sure the town is getting the best people for the job. He said the people up for reappointment may be the best people, but he would like to see resumes.

"I think we owe it to ourselves and the taxpayers," he said.

Thank You Jaimie!

The MVFD purchased the First Responder vehicle with their own money and will be insuring it with their own money. QUOTE TAKEN FROM POSTING?? I believe your wrong the dept NEVER said they would cover the cost of the insurance.Perhaps one person has made this statement or should we say promise. So you may have to change that statement. please look into this further.

Sincerly,

Looking for whose really telling the true

Middlebury Stay Informed said...

It was my understanding that the cost of insuring this vehicle is $400.00 per year. That was not exactly 100% accurate and has been changed in the posting.

The truth is that the MVFD voted to pay $400.00 per year for the municipal license plate. By paying for this municipal plate, the vehicle is covered under the Town's insurance plan. It is my understanding that by paying for this plate, there will be no added expense to the Town.

In keeping with DeAngelis' preferred nomenclature, and in light of his poor attempts at "wit and wisdom" in his own piss-poor-pit blog, perhaps we should now officially refer to him as the town's "half-wit"...

Hang in there Chief! You and the members of the MVFD have a lot to be proud of. Tradition, Pride, Honor and Excellence. Don't buy into the bait! The town is behind you guys.

Someday he'll need you and you'll be there for him too. It's what volunteers do.

Remember: Volunteers do it from the heart.

The answer is obvious, the Internet, sites like Ourmoneypit are the
future of newscasting. We are not a corporation, we don't need or
want any persons good will and we are not running for any office
nor do we ever intend to run. So we tell it like it is, and if
somebody is offended, well that's America, free speech and all
that....

However, the you contradicted yourself Mr. DeAngelis (surprise, surprise). You can not be a news source and then "tell it" how you think that "it is". The entire point of news is for it to be truthful and unbiased. The point of a news story is to share events with the public and then let them form their own opinion. That is why reporters do not write in the first person. Any opinions are presented as quotes from third parties, and every journalism student is taught during the first week of Journalism 101 that if you're going to use a quote to present an opinion on a story, you should ALWAYS include quotes to represent all sides of the story. It is the journalist's job to present the news to the public so that they can make up their own mind about it, not for you to form an opinion for the people themselves. We're not mindless sheep, Mr. DeAngelis.

Thus, and yes, I am a firefighter that uses "sophisticated words" like "thus", your "website" will never be considered a source of news. It is purely the rantings of a sad, lonely, degenerate old man in his online diary while sitting alone in the dark of his basement because the majority of his family want nothing to do with him, his so-called "friends" just use him as a political tool, and he desperately needs and craves any minute sliver of the spotlight of public/town/any interest that he can weasel himself into. It's not angering - it's pathetic.

Anonymous said...

Is it possible for Mr. Anonymous to succinctly list a few of Chief Perrotti's lies?

I'd like to see some of those lies, and not a bunch of ranting or personal insults.

"c. I would immediately stop using junk cars with untrained "fly" operators and in doing so would stop embarrassing the citizens of the town and would attract more volunteers."

This is by far my favorite. I couldn't stop laughing when I read this. Patties solution - don't buy the car and no calls will ever be passed to campion. haha. How does this car embarrass anything? I know if there is a medical emergency at my house, and I'm waiting for campion to come, I'll be happy to see that car pull in my driveway, and so should every resident in Middlebury.

Let me see if I have this right?"

You don't have it right. As indicated above, I corrected the story already to say that the $400.00 was for a municipal license plate. By getting the plate, the car will be insured by the Town. Where is the lie there?

If you want to talk about a brother firefighter in a disparaging manner, you will have to find a different forum. As stated, I will delete anything that I feel is inappropriate.

Anonymous said...

It is disappointing to see how someone will ask the devil (Deangelis) for help when he cannot work within the system.

The MVFD is a fraternal organization of brother firefighters. Disputes get resolved within the brotherhood. What kind of person would feed photos and private information to the town asshole, just because he couldn't get his own way? Step back a bit and think about it.

Middlebury Stay Informed said...

Again.

If anyone wants to talk about a brother firefighter in a disparaging manner, you will have to find a different forum. The MVFD is a brotherhood, and I will delete any attack on any firefighter no matter what.

I'd be ashamed if my photo was on OURMONEYPIT. What right does Deangelis have to use those pictures? What's next? Secret tapings?

Pattie finally managed to put a negative spin on Tommy's insistence that he get a resume for anyone submitted as a candidate for an open position on a town committee or commission.

Back in the St. John era, Pattie criticized the "rubber stamping" of candidates from the MRTC and called the who thing incestuous. Today -- now that Pattie is dancing to Eddie's string pulling -- the endorsement by the MRTC or MDTC is more than enough.

Pattie actually quotes Eddie and endorses Eddie's stand:

"St. John said. “Under my administration, screening was always done at the town committee level.”

That's how it's done everywhere in the civilized world. In fact, two thousand years ago that's how the Romans did it. Tom wants to use Tarot cards.

That is absolutely ridiculous, even coming from Pattie. Tommy is saying to the town that he is not rubber stamping endorsements from the town committees without knowing something of the candidate's background. Tommy should be applauded. In 2005 Pattie would have applauded such a thing, but today? Pattie is Eddie's puppet. Believe it.

Dear Mike:

I have recently been advised that you are spending a considerable amount of time down at the Public Works Facility. Aside from the public areas, i.e., Transfer/Recycling Station any other area is considered “restricted” and is for Town personnel only.
Any future visits to the restricted areas must be first cleared by this office.
Tom

This may have been a dumb E-Mail for Tommy to send to the chairman of the public works committee, but wouldn't it have been better for Mike to speak to Tom first, and not send it to the devil (Deangelis).

What has Middlebury come to?

1. We have the girl rats working for Pattie.

2. We have MVFD brothers ratting and leaking to Pattie.

3. We have a town committee chairman and member of the BOF leaking to Pattie.

You're dealing with the devil folks. Is this really how you want Middlebury to operate?

WTF?

Anonymous said...

Actually that letter was not dumb. Its not Mikes job to do oversight. He makes budgets. Dan Nortons job is oversight as well as the First selectman. Mike Is a democrat and he is going to be voted out this year anyway. The dems hate him. The letter was well needed because frankly Mike has been harassing the public works department.

Sorry pattie your spies are now starting to be restricted. Tom Gormley has every right to tell a non- Town employee to stay out of restricted areas

We live in a town that is supposed to be highly educated and upper middle class, according to the demographics. Growing in this town is something evil, the OURMONEYPIT web site. Most of us writing n this blog agree that it is filled with lies and distortions.

You would think that seemingly educated people would avoid OURMONEYPIT or at least treat it as a joke. But no. We see public officials sending private E-Mails and letters to OURMONEYPIT. We have brother firefighters leaking photos and inside information to OURMONEYPIT. We have the entire Republican town committee using OURMONEYPIT to sabotage the First Selectman.

Yes. It is only talk. It is "free speech". But you'd think that our citizens would denounce Deangelis, not support him and feed his efforts. People are using OURMONEYPIT to get their own way when they cannot do it through the system. By doing so they are corrupting Middlebury because they allow OURMONEYPIT to get its tentacles even deeper into our governmental processes. Why work within the system when you can get satan to give you a hand? Making satan even stronger.

That doesn't sound right to me. I think the Public Works Commission should be extremely familiar with what is going on in all aspects of Public Works.

Tommy may have a point, I don't know the background, and it is not clear from this E-Mail (which should have been private not broadcast on OURMONEYPIT.

There is no excuse for McCormack using OURMONEYPIT to discuss something with Gormley. McCormack could always bring it up at a Selectmans meeting if he wanted it to get some publicity. That would be the civil way to do it.

Two wrongs don't make a right. I think McCormack made the biggest mistake here by getting satan involved. He'd be the first person to criticize if someone else did the same thing.

Happy New Year Everybody!

I have a great suggestion!

I suggest that Town Hall publish every single piece of correspondence onto the internet. Letters, invoices, payments, E-Mails, lunch orders, everything.

Might as well. Because Board of Finance members and Selectmen will do it anyway by giving copies to Pat Deangelis.

I think we have the right to see everything. Don't you?

Mr. Deangelis seems to have forgotten this unsolved "cold case".

Unsolved Crimes From OURMONEYPIT November 10, 2005

In 1996 , at a hastily called town meeting that concluded without a referendum vote
Doctor St. John was able to get approval to sell 38 acres of town land at Straw Pond for
approximately $35.000.00 an acre. Today, in 2005 he wants to sell this land to Ben Morris of North Haven for the same price established in 1996. The "Doctor" is ripping off the community by not only selling off town land but selling the land at prices that were too low almost a decade ago. Why the special deal to Mr. Morris? What is really going on here?

Anonymous said...

Today Pat Deangelis thinks that it is a great idea to bring back Eddie. But on July 10, 2005 he said this (complete with his misspellings)

"our town is fiscally sound?????"

Can they be serious?:

1. OUR TAX RATE (MILL RATE) IS OFF THE CHARTS:

2. Our Bond rating is 5 out of 7 (only two catagories are lower than ours).

3. ST. JOHN/STROBEL FAILED TWICE TO GET A BUDGET PASSED. THE VOTERS DON'T WANT BIG GREEN TRUCKS AND GRANITE CURBS. THE VOTERS WANT LOWER TAXES. ITS THE ECOMONMY, STUPID.

4. Middlebury ranks 13 of 169 in tax levy per capita in CT. Think about that for a while.

Town Per capita tax levy
Southbury $1,936
Woodbury $ 1,951
Oxford $ 1674
Middlebury $2,735

I'll repeat a question that was asked about a month ago in this blog, but never answered:

Say Pattie, tell us specifically, how do you think Middlebury should pay the additional $1,000,000 that will be needed to pay our share of the Region 15 costs in 2009? You know, the $1,000,000 that is paying for all the new kids coming from Brookside and Avalon Farms and Ginsburg? The cluster housing built by the St. John Construction Company?

Exactly how will Middlebury get those dollars?
