Who Is Calling The Kettle Black

“Paul Perrotti mislead people into voting down a move that would have

sent all votes to a referendum vote. He wanted to keep things in the 18th.

Cen. mode of a "town meeting." Perrotti, Savarese and Gormley want

these votes taken at 9 o'clock in the middle of winter when people with

small children or the elderly can't make the meeting. Hey, screw the three

of you, let's stay with the American way of a secret machine ballot.”

How did Paul Perrotti do that? Is he First Selectman? No, he is the Fire Chief.  He is not in Town government, does not call Town meetings, and does not arrange referendums.  Pure nonsense from the Money Pit.

Perrotti, Savarese, and Gormley, have never arranged a 9 o’clock meeting in the middle of winter, to quietly pass their budget.  But, Mr. DeAngelis knows who has. Referendums started in 2005.  How were budgets passed during the past years of Mr. St. John’s administration?  In the dead of winter when no one was paying attention.  Who is calling the kettle black?

Mr. DeAngelis wants to diminish the importance of Town meetings in America.  They give the ordinary person a chance to stand up and voice their opinions.  Its called freedom of speech, and is something Mr. DeAngelis thinks is reserved only for himself.

The Town Meeting form of government has been around since the beginning of our great nation. While referendums are not a bad thing in any way, shape, or form, they are not the only way small town government works. The shame here is the incredibly biased reporting, and the willingness of people to buy into it. I have yet to see a single comment about the disparity in the Region budget. Anyone with the smallest shred of common sense will see the tax increase is due to the Region. We'll see how much complaining occurs when the roads don't get plowed like they have in the past, and the grass at public parks is high, and the library is only open 3 days a week. Who knows, maybe the MRA will be closed until July or later next year. Pat keeps hammering away at the FD, knowing full well that the 501 C-3 is not obligated under FOI to release any of their financials. He also should know that the 501 C-3 is NOT a town department. But, admitting that would mean that he might be wrong, which everyone knows NEVER happens!! At some point, the rhetoric needs to stop, and we need a town budget passed here. In order to overcome our share of the Region increase, we will have to curtail many town services that people count on. How unfortunate that is. I'd like to see Pat make some REAL suggestions about where to cut, instead of harping on $500.00 spent out of last years budget, and money that is not TAXPAYER dollars, but rather charitable donations to a 501 C-3. My opinion is this: Pat, if you are so concerned about the cost of heating your home, then SELL!!! Move down South or out West. Get out of Middlebury, the sooner, the better. Maye you can head to the family winery, and stomp some grapes!!! Either that, or get off your high horse, and make some real effort to help the town. Volunteer somewhere.......Oh, that would mean actually coming out of your house, and being seen in public.
