It makes me crazy when I see how Ken Heidkamp and most of his Republican Town Committee buddies sat on their hands when the time came to help Tom Gormley.
These people put on a huge campaign last year to get their seats on the committee. They put a big ad in the paper proclaiming their support for Tom. Deangelis dedicated week after week promoting these guys. Elaine Strobel ran on his ticket. They had a big fund raiser.
Tom gets in office - and then - dropped.
I just cannot figure it out. Can Doctor St. John really have this many people in his pocket? And what in the world do they possibly have against the MVFD? Can anybody provide some background on this?
Tom Gormley inherited a pile of turds. He's trying to straighten it out. He's untangled some of it. He's reduced the town budget. They should be throwing Tom a big dinner! They should be throwing Paul Perrotti a big dinner too for all that he and the MVFD have done for Middlebury, not against Middlebury. But they're kissing the doctor's ass.
I just don't get it.
The MVFD reminds residents to properly dispose of oil soaked rags by soaking them in water and storing them in a covered metal can outside the residence.

maybe these people (RTC) just don't like how Tom is doin' things ? Raising taxes when the economy is this bad is not a good thing. Rather then criticize, look at what other towns are doing. Just today Milford voted for 0% (yes thats zero) for town managers. West Hartford cut school AND town building renovations for a 2% budget increase. How do we compare ?
Town taxes were reduced by 3%. Thats what Tom did. He reduced the town side of the budget. Thats not raising taxes. Its lowering them. You want to reduce taxes, look at the school budget.
As far the RTC, they are a do nothing group of St. John supports that can't even get a McCain/Palin sigh up around town. When is that going to happen? Woodbury has it campaign headquarters open. Where is Middlebury's? Where can I find it?
There are some good people on the committee, but most have to go next time around.
oh please stop the delusions.
Our taxes will go up 6%. Period.
We are paying more for the school budget because WE (middlebury) put more kids in the schools ! Its not rocket science. If our enrollment stayed the same our school budget would not go up at all. Let's slow down on our residential growth and maybe offset it with commercial development.
With the school budget WAY up and the non-tax revenues way DOWN Tom would have needed to cut the town side 15% or more to keep a flat mil rate.
How was Tom supposed to do that? How was Tom supposed to INSTANTLY do that in his first year after being confronted with the buried St. John/Strobel bag of worms? Every time Tom turns around he gets another nasty surprise.
Where's Strobel? Helping? Hell no! She and Heidkamp are having a pushing contest to see who can cozy up closer to St. John for his triumphant return.
Getting back to Tom - the guy who is actually doing something - not complaining and pointing fingers. Tom is selling off St. John's toys. Back in 2005 you Campaign 2005 people made that a big deal. Tom is shutting it down and getting some of the money back. Perrotti's chrome wheels? Did you check out the pin striping on St. John's toys? Ever get a truck pin striped? Yeah - that helps when you're hauling crushed stone over to Brookside to help them put up houses.
So mister wise ass anonymous? How did you think Tom would give you a flat mil rate? Lay off everyone? Sell Fenn Farm? Convert MVFD to a paid fire department? Cut out the entire Police Department? What? Tell us!
everything is a lie according to you.
who over-estimated the revenues ? gee, the economy is bad .......lets included hundreds of thousands in building fees ! smart
I notice you didn't answer the question.
That's because you don't have an answer. For you, it is sooo much easier to attack, isn't it.
I say that Tom was dealt a bad hand. I say that a lot of the problems were caused by St John's bloated spending and all of his hiding of expenses and revenue. Are you arguing that?
Are you arguing that Keli Bollard made it worse by providing an artificially low mil rate increase last year by using up the rainy day fund? Hey! It was only drizzling last year and she spent the surplus. This year it is really raining. Where's Keli? I'll tell you. She got herself onto the Board of Finance and she is just as stuck as Tom and everybody else on that board. Keli didn't pull any rabbits out of the hat this year. So what do you do? You blame Gormley. Smart. Smart Ass.
You can't provide a reasonable way to lower the spending, can you. In fact your comments don't go to the point at all. You can't answer the question of how Tom could have played his hand better.
Go fish!
Game, Set and Match Go To - Lies, Lies, And More Lies.
Anonymous blames the school budget on Tom, and also blames over-development on Tom. What about Ed?
As much as the Kool-aide drinkers may want. Ed will not be coming back, unless he has $948.000 in his back pocket ready to pay the back the residents of Middlebury. We won't be fooled again?
I may be a redneck but I am not a dumbass like Mister Anonymous. I was a big supporter of Campaign 2005 when Ralph and Keli tried to unseat ESTJ.
Mister Anonymous has a memory problem. He is not the only one. Some of my friends from Campaign 2005 are now on the Town Republican Committee. You know their names. They must drink kool ade at that committee. I talk to them and they make wisecracks about Gormley.
Gormley has Bollard to help him with the finances. This should be a dream situation folks! But you know what my friends are doing? The are running fund raisers for ESTJ - swear to god!
WTF?
We would have been better off with Fran Brennan.
Brennan knew that he had no friends. He would not have been blindsided. Or stabbed in the back. Polyanna Tom is still trying to identify friend versus foe. Can he trust the MRTC? Can he trust his administrative assistant? Is his office bugged? Will Elaine work behind his back? (yes)
Fran Brennan has already been in hostile situations. That guy is battle hardened. If nothing else, he would have put a team in place that would support him.
By the way, it was Fran Brennan when he was running, who said he would look after Middlebury's interests in Region 15. He had spoken about having to spend some money to save a whole bunch of money by hiring an attorney to go to bat for Middlebury. Still maybe a good idea.
As a member of the RTC I know it is the policy of the Town Committee not to become involved in budget battles. It simply is not the RTC's job to support a budget. The RTC's main objective is to support republican candidates for office and does not become involved in stumping for town official's policies once they are in office. I know for a fact when Mr. St. John and Mr. Dayton approached the committee to promote his budget they were likewise turned away and told the same thing. Individual members may promote the budget all they wish but it is not the Committee's place to publicly support administration policy.
Dear Mr. Anonymous RTC Member:
I think it is fair to say that in years past, almost every member of the RTC would have "personally" got behind Ed and done something to support the budget.
This year was completely different and you know it. There is real fear in the RTC this year. I think they are afraid that Ed will get back in power and they'll be toast.
So each one of them. Every one. They either sat on their hands doing nothing or they undermined Tom behind his back.
Tell me I'm wrong about that.
