Firefighters Should Not Be Allowed To Vote

“Anyway how important are these meetings if the guy running them jumps when summoned by a politician? That WAS Paul Perrotti at the caucus Monday night, right?”

I guess Mr. DeAngelis does not believe that Middlebury Firefighters should have an opportunity to exercise their right to vote as Americans.  The Chief should not be able to change a meeting night by one day in order to allow Republicans (and there are lot of them) in the MVFD to have a voice in Town government. Is that a privilege reserved only for those who align themselves politically with himself and Mr. St. John?  Mr. DeAngelis complains that there were not enough Republicans at the caucus and that the resulting vote was unfair, yet, he also complains about the people who were in the room exercising their right to vote. How odd.

I live out of state now, but I still follow the going-on's in my beloved hometown of "the 'bury". However, the storyline that has been playing out has left me in an intriguing ying and yang state - between disgust and humour. The firefighters of this town are our "good old boys" - those down to earth men and women who are not afraid or hesitant to roll up their sleeves and get their hands dirty, and perhaps even be a hero somewhere along the way. And do they want medals or parades after they return from a successful call? No... all the MVFD community wants is the freedom and ability to live their lives and run their department the only way they know how - to the best of their abilities, for what is best for the civilian residents of the town and themselves. This whole drama with the politicians and the supposed "town leaders" - does this bring anyone else back to their high school days? It reminds me of the constant battle between the "good old boys" who just wanted to get their homework done, and the "cool kids" whose seemingly only purpose in life was to make the lives of those who were not as rich, popular, or in a position of power, as miserable as possible. Didn't we ever move beyond high school? Grow up, guys (not the MVFD - the "others"). People out of state, even, are laughing at you. Don't turn our beautiful town into a spectacle or a joke. Set a good example for your kids.

And Paul, keep up the good fight. Don't forget - anyone who has had the pleasure of serving with you knows what a great leader you truely are, and we're all, or at least I am, fully confident in your ability to lead this Department, successfully and safely, into the future.

God Bless, guys. Stay safe out there and keep up the great work.
