It is not time for Middlebury’s Fire Chief, Paul Perrotti, to leave his position as asserted by Pat DeAngelis. He should stay. DeAngelis’s accusations of rampant misuse of taxpayer funds are more mischaracterizations of those with whom he disagrees.
I received apparel and went to fire department family picnics. They are a thank you to volunteers who, at an alarm, drop what they are doing and race to homes at all times of day & night to protect Middlebury’s residents. Volunteers perform other services such as pumping out flooded basements and rescuing accident victims. All FD services are led by Chief Perrotti.
Even if the expenditures had come from taxpayer funds, it is a small price compared to a professional department. I wear the shirts proudly. Using DeAngelis’s logic, the town picnic for town employees should be investigated as a gross violation of taxpayer funds.
The $800,000 bank account is a legitimate point of discussion and is used for public safety. For example, all residents benefit from a completely fitted out new ambulance being purchased at no cost to the town.
I trust Chief Perrotti with my safety and know he has the safety of town residents & volunteer firefighters foremost in his mind when discharging his duties.
DeAngelis’s witch-hunt for those with whom he disagrees disguised as high minded, selfless public advocacy is ludicrous. His diatribe of ad hominem attacks and insults are a true testament to the character of the man.
