Budget Passes - Official Results

 Continued from Page One
signs placed across town last week stating “Vote yes for the budget” and to “Preserve Middlebury.”
An arrest warrant is pending for two individuals who stole some of the signs off

residents’ yards over the weekend.  The last budget proposal was rejected in August, 767-581, and the two previous proposals failed by 3-to-1 margins — 1,052 to 393 in May and 682-289 in May. The new budget is 3.16 percent lower than last year’s figure, with cuts made to town employee benefits as officials anticipate some employees taking a “buyout” offer and going into the town’s retirement program. Town officials also made cuts to maintenance budget for the Public Works and Fire departments.
One resident, Jodi Wasserstein, who voted in favor of the proposal, said she felt town officials had made significant cuts to the budget and was bothered by the reduction in hours of operation at the library on Crest Road.
“I think there is a minimum threshold you have to maintain,” Wasserstein said. “You can’t just keep cutting and cutting. You need services.”
Under the new budget, the tax rate will rise from 21.9 mills to 23.21 mills.  A resident with a home assessed at $210,000 will pay $4,874, $275 more than last year, or a 5.98 percent increase. A mill is equal to $1 for every $1,000 of a property’s taxable value.
Town officials removed the town’s special funds, which include $1.2 million for the Water Pollution Control Authority and $216,888 for other improvements across town, from the budget after the first referendum and plan to schedule a separate town meeting to approve those funds.

The Truth...... Middlebury finally woke up and said we are tired of the bullshit. I love how Pat claims it as a victory. You notice how there is nothing on the Web site about it anymore.

PS I hope they build 1200 units there........I can't wait to drive by White Ave and look at pat's house with all the new homes right behind his.

I hope the EPA finds all the motor oil and anti freeze and other junk that Pat has dumped in Straw Pond for the last 40 years. That should give him some much needed jail time.

I saw him dumping all the oil from his gay Honda Motorcycle (get a real Bike) and his ford Focus into the pond last week. I have it on Videotape and will post it within the next day or two so keep watching.

Where is the Middlebury Tax alliance???

Im so excited for the projects that are going right in back of Pats house. This is the type of place that Pat wants to turn Middlebury into. I figure if Middlebury is going to become Waterbury Like Pat wants it to be then lets start in his neighborhood. You get what you ask for Pat. Lets also not mention that a certain percentage of low income housing will bring down our taxes so what are you bitching for Pat. Thats what you want.

how does low income housing bring down taxes ?

If you have a certain percentage of low income or elderly housing (I think 13%) or vs overall population of your town you get to keep your state Aide. So i figure with the over development of Middlebury........Thanks Doc..... that having more of it will help us keep our state aid.

A different story is how much state aide we get (example Prospect with with same size population and median Income 25% versus Middlebury 3%) We don't get nearly as much as we should with a interstate coming through a town but that is a different story.
