In 1996, at a hastily called town meeting that concluded without a referendum vote
Doctor St. John was able to get approval to sell 38 acres of town land at Straw Pond for approximately $35.000.00 an acre. Today, in 2005 he wants to sell this land to Ben Morris of North Haven for the same price established in 1996.
The "Doctor" is ripping off the community by not only selling off town land but selling the land at prices that were too low almost a
decade ago. Why the special deal to Mr. Morris? What is really going on here?
OURMONEYPIT criticized the time of the Selectmans meetings back on Nov 10, 2005. Today Gormley holds them at 6:00PM

Selectman's meetings are held during the day when it is difficult for most people to attend. The newest schedule of these meetings, I believe, is every two weeks at 4:30 P.M. If you are not sure of the time and place call the Office of Selectman Edward B. St. John (203)758-2439. He probably won't be in, but someone should be able to tell you when and if the Selectmen will meet.

Let's put politics and personalities aside for a minute and look at Forest Walk. What are "we" (as in community) going to do about 300-400 affordable (or maybe not) condos coming to Regan Rd? Forget the politics. The sewer and water lines are in. What do we do now?
Tom Gormley and the Conservation Committee gave an honest assessment of Straw Pond. Whether or not we agreed on procedure at all times is immaterial.
State regulations were followed both in the spirit and the letter of the regulations. As professional as the C.C. was what can they do, what can Zoning do now that sewer and water are available to developers?
For the benefit of brainwashed OURMONEYPIT followers, what Deangelis was saying back in 2005 was that the St. John Construction Company had stupidly put in the necessary infrastructure so that Section 8-30g of the Affordable Housing Law kicked in and developers could swoop in and build wherever they wanted in Middlebury. Deangelis knows the law sufficiently to say that Conservation and P&Z must be very very careful.
Let me repeat. Deangelis completely blamed Edward B. St. John for this. No waffling. He did not blame Gormley. He did not blame P&Z

The utter Corruption of substituting 12'' water mains on Project P.A. 99-242, the project that is Camp Rd., Atwood, etc. Why do you think this was done?
What private project is near this area? Why did the State of Ct. refuse to pay for 12" water mains when 8" mains were called for? Why did CT Water Co. write the letter to the State concerning this project? We will give this project

ACTUALLY DOES SOMETHING.
Elaine Strobel was seen leaving town hall with copies of deeds and voting records of Campaign 2005 members. Why would Elaine do that when for two years she did nothing but bob her head up and down everytime Ed (Dr.) St. John told her to do someting? For her and Ed this is their version of public service, i.e., sneaking around getting "dirt".
The Democrats should be ashamed for running somebody as inept as Hal Lynch.

How phoney is this? Next we'll hear how Ed wants to sell his big, shiny trucks and start planning events for the elderly and young people.
What Planning and Zoning person is using his position on that Board to attack a Middlebury citizen? How cowardly is that? How far will he bend to lick Ed's boots?

This blurb, from August 2005, shows that Edward B. St. John twisted the arms of Bill Stowell and the MRTC until Campaign 2005 was blocked from voting for a primary. Of course Deangelis reverses himself in 2007 when Brennan wants a fair chance, but that is another story for another day.
We are going to have a moment of silence in commemoration of the death of democracy in the Republican Town Committee in Middlebury. Tonight , for the first time in the history of Middlebury the Republican Town Committee will NOT allow Republicans in town to vote for nominations to offices. Let the
history of the town show that William Stowell was Chairman when the deed was done.
You can go to the meeting, but unlike in the past, you can't VOTE for those nominated.
Back in January 2006 I'd say that Pat accurately assessed Edward B. St. John.

First Selectman fights amnesia...,
Dr. Ed. St. John is fighting a case of impending amnesia. According to a deposition printed in the Waterbury Republican-American newspaper Dr. St. John cannot remember when he graduated from high school.
Yes, I know that is a common problem, most of us can't remember the year we were graduated from high school. Go ahead, try to remember where and when you went to high school. St. John also "couldn't recall" what "kind" of doctorate he earned.
Imagine! If you have a B.S. degree, do you remember in what field it is? Can you imagine "forgetting" in what field you earned a doctorate? Outrageous. I'm so glad the simple folk who voted for Ed can get to read this deposition. Oh, and he also swore that he couldn't remember which of the 5 institutions of higher education he "attended" gave him a doctorate. Who said he faked his credentials?
But in 2008 Pat seems to have the memory problem. He's in love with the doctor now. He doesn't remember all the way back to January 2006 when St. John made a complete ass of himself.
Nope. In 2008 Pat thinks that Ed is the perfect person to lead Middlebury.
