“Kurt Vonnegut once wrote, “I can think of no more stirring symbol of man's humanity to man than a fire engine.” Yesterday those who came out and voted in favor of the new pumper showed their humanity towards the residents in our community. It was a victory for the Town, and all of its citizens.
Replacing Engine 2 is the first step in rebuilding Middlebury’s fleet of fire apparatus. The old Engine 2 will now be sold, and the MVFD can say goodbye to a 27 year old engine that has served the community well throughout its years of service. Engine 4, from the West End Station, will take it’s place. Engine 3 will be moved from Fire Headquarters and relocated at the West End.
The new Engine 2 will faithfully serve the Town for the next 20 years as a frontline pumper. Thats a long time. We just hope that for the next 20 years we still have volunteers who will be willing to ride aboard it.
Thank you Middlebury!

Asa I was one of the guys standing outside all day for the referendum, and I would like to thank all the voters for coming out and supporting our department. This is a big win for our community and we are continuing to get our town back on track.
Again, thank you for your vote it is much appreciated!
It just shows how the how good always triumphs evil. The vindictiveness of St John and Pat D showed and the true Middlebury people voted. St John are you really going to run?
Hats off to Chief Perrotti and all the guys!!!! Job well done. I told you pattie, we are not scared of you and eddie.... you still are failing at everything you do. We won again, it does not matter by how many votes.... we still are the WINNERS of your sick little game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The irony here is that all this could have been taken care of at a town meeting. The Kool-Aid Krowd's little exercise in civics cost the Town (ie; you and me) over three grand.
I wish to extend a personal thanks to the following inividuals (circulators of the petition) for wasting my time and money; Pat D'Angeles (of course), MRTC members Ray Rivard, Paul Bowler and Jim Crocicchia, Laurie Mattson and Polly Wilson(I'm not saying a word), Heidi Shea, former temporary Fire Commission members Keneth W. Heidkamp and William Flannagan, former firefighter and Public Works employee Drue Greene, Robert D'Angelo, and Brenda Halloran.
Next time, guys, don't do me any favors...
p.s. a copy of the petition can be obtained at the Town Clerk's office for two bucks.
Pat is quoted from the site
"The only important battle is the last one...OMP founder p. de angelis..."
Pat lost by a landside last night. Not just the fire Engine but everything. You and Eddie are failures. Pack it up
I love how busy his web site is. Whenever he gets like this you know he is pissed off. Everyone knows that you lost so please stop lying to try to twist it. Its actually pathetic how an old man (he does say he is over the age of 65) Can make himself look like an Ass.
Congratulations guys, good sales job in an absurd political climate. Considering the Town’s history of buying only American LaFrance, it is truly ironic that your detractors accuse MVFD of being extravagant when you now turn to Ferarra. If spending top dollar was a priority, you would have selected a Seagrave or a Pierce. As it turned out, the Chief was responsible to the taxpayer and ordered a well-manufactured, dependable, and cost efficient apparatus that will give the Town great performance for the full 20 years of its service life. We have a fleet of Ferarra’s, and we are quite pleased both as firefighters and taxpayers.
Again, congrats and keep up the good fight.
Board of Selectmen Approves Purchase of Fire Pumper Apparatus

I don't want to criticize Elaine. She asked the right questions. I'd rather praise Paul Perrotti for having all the right answers. I don't think anyone can deny that Paul has been championing the necessary updates of fire apparatus on a schedule that should not overburden Middlebury. He's done a great job applying for state and federal grants to offset local costs.
Mrs. Strobel asked Fire Chief Paul Perrotti about air packs for the new truck. The chief had stated at an October 29 meeting that additional expenses to add air packs to the fire truck might be a possibility, if a grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency is not received.
Chief Perrotti told Voices he applied for a $280,000 grant that would outfit every engine with new air packs and is hoping to find out if it will be awarded in December.
"We're hopeful that we can get it, but we wouldn't count on it," he said. "Plan B is to get new air packs [only] for the new engine."
Paul attends every Board of Selectmen meeting. He consistently gives a "heads up" on important matters and expense planning. He is always polite and controlled.
I can't wait to see how Pattie spins this one.
