“Many members viewed the outcome as a victory. (defeat of charter revision).
This is exactly why we can't have a childish person like Perrotti in that office. The Charter revision contained many points that the TOWN needed, like automatic referenda and constraints on spending. All Perrotti saw was that an oversight board would control his runaway spending and his refusal to open the financial books to the town.”
Mr. DeAngelis is once again wrong about all the above. It is true that there were good elements of the Charter revision, and that is precisely why Chief Perrotti gathered nearly 200 signatures on the morning of July 14, 2007 for a petition that would have made the decision to create a permanent fire commission a separate question on the Charter Revision vote. Mr. St. John and Mrs. Strobel would not allow it. Read about that here. So if you want to blame anyone for the failure of the good parts of the charter, blame Mr. St. John and Mrs. Strobel.
Accusing Chief Perrotti of runaway spending is libelous. The MVFD is one of the largest departments in Middlebury with one of the smallest budgets. Over the last two years, Chief Perrotti and the MVFD has CUT ITS BUDGET by almost 14%. The Department runs on $209,000. A paid department would cost the taxpayers millions.
All taxpayer money expenditures for Fire Department budget items are paid by the Town Hall Finance Office, and signed by the Board of Selectmen, not by Chief Perrotti.
Mr. DeAngelis keeps repeating the same old lies over and over again, but no matter how many times he repeats them, they are still not true.
“And, by the way, the bullshit that only firemen should be concerned with this election is just that, bullshit. As long AS YOU TAKE MY MONEY TO BUY YOUR STUFF AND TO PAY YOUR FIRE CALLS I SURE AS HELL WILL ADDRESS THE ISSUE OF WHO IS RUNNING THAT TOWN DEPARTMENT.”
More shrill from the Pit. The last thing anyone at the MVFD wants is Mr. St. John, Mrs. Strobel, Mr. Heidkamp, or Mr. DeAngelis telling our brave firefighters who will lead them on the fireground. The more they try to interfere, the more it angers the rank and file.

While I was examining the daily OMP trash, I made a startling discovery. Read this quote from OMP: "DeAngelis tutored children prior to their First Communion ( that's Catholic stuff ), he is a former altar boy,". I do believe that I have discovered ESTJ's fascination w/DeAngelis. It's all right there in that quotation. Need I say more?
And, while I'm at it, I'll comment on this piece of literary brilliance from the "language maven", as he chooses to call himself: "“And, by the way, the bullshit that only firemen should be concerned with this election is just that, bullshit. As long AS YOU TAKE MY MONEY TO BUY YOUR STUFF AND TO PAY YOUR FIRE CALLS I SURE AS HELL WILL ADDRESS THE ISSUE OF WHO IS RUNNING THAT TOWN DEPARTMENT.” Pat, you have a say over the Board of Selectmen, and the Board of Finance. It is they who approve the expenditures of the town department commonly known as the Fire Department. You can "address" to your hearts content, but, just as you have no direct say over who is the PW director, Library director, police chief, Financial officer, etc., you have no say in who the Fire Chief is. Even if Middlebury had a paid fire department, you'd have no say over who that was either. It's commonly known to regular Internet users that capitalizing a whole sentence is the same as screaming in person. For someone who complains incessantly about raised voices, this seems somewhat hypocritical. I feel harrased. I want to read OMP without being screamed at. Where's the PD? I want to file a complaint........
If Mr. Potato Head wants to pick the fire chief, it's easy. Go down to the fire house, fill out an application, do the required training, become a member. Then he can vote for himself if he wants. Along the way he might actually do some good in this town. And please don't give me the line about being a feeble senior citizen. If he can bomb around White Ave. on that Gold Wing, he can ride on a decrepit fire engine. And as a bonus, he can salute the Doctor's picture every day...
So Paulie is the only one capable of being chief ?
give me a break. Its becoming a dictatorship now.
There should be term limits. Let someone else do it.
4 years as cheief and thats it.
Dictatorship? Don't of any dictatorships that have free and open elections.
Yes Paul is the only one capable of being chief!!! When you have a good leader like Paul, you should just let it go. We know pattie boy is in bed with eddie and we know eddie is doing anything in his so called powers to see Paul fall, guess what, he will not fall!! You eddie are the only one that has fallen!!!!!! Get a god damm life would you.
So the Doctor is the only one capable of running the town? Give me a break. Twenty four years is a dictatorship. There should be term limits. Let someone else do it. Four years as thief, and that's it...
The last year of StJohn's term as 1st Selectman and Public Works Director we paid him over $100,000. And what did we get for it. Well, he stuck us with $960,000 worth of construction bills out at Washington Dr. Just think the Town could have bought two fire engines for what that blunder cost us. Thank God we got rid of StJohn when we did!
Like I said.....Term Limits.
NOBODY stays in one office for more then 4 or 5 years. Period.
20 + plus years with gay boy Eddie and 12+ years with Perriotti. Time to move on boys (and girls).

Maybe we should have term limiys for Police Chief, Park & Rec Director, PW Director, and all the other town positions as well. Term limits for 1st Selctman's secretary. My point is simple. The Fire Chief is a Department Head, selected thru a democratic process. If someone else wants to be the Fire Chief, they have the right to be nominated and run, just the same as Paul. If the membership so chooses, then there might be a new Chief. Or the membership may decide to keep Paul as their Chief. Either way, the members will make the decision as to whether or not it is "time to move on".
The RTC and the Kool-Aid Krowd are beside themselves because this is one election that they can't sway with thier dirty tricks or the doctor's money. Too bad the folks from the convalescent home and the kids from Washington Depot can't vote for Fire Chief. Outsiders will try to meddle by preying on a few weak firemen, promising them the world. Of course, some have already taken the bait. All you have to do is read the paper...
