Nice try at an original quote. Unfortunately, it was not too original. It was one of the more memorable quotes from King Vidor’s 1956 version of the epic, “War And Peace.” The line was spoken by General Kutisov in the following passage...
Kutusov. - Your plans ! Tomorrow after the battle, the generals will wonder why their plans did not succeed. And they will blame everybody but from themselves.
Bolkonski. - How will the battle go tomorrow ?
Kutusov. - I believe that we shall lose the battle, but we shall not lose the war. We shall sign the peace and we shall begin the war again. Men like Napoleon don't stop until their own ambition has destroyed them. The only important battle is the last one.

Pat when are you going to talk about JB on your website. Hes one of your henchmen. Pat your about to become more of a laughing stock because of the actions that you and eddie boy created
Unfortunatly J.B.has lowered himself again, performing childish acts against fellow firemen. The best thing you can do to save whats left of your name is to resign from the fire dept.Don't worry Joe the circus is coming back in june.I'm sure that they will have an act for you because your a "CLOWN"
I'm planning to get a copy of the referendum petition to better understand who is involved in all of this stuff. I'm sure many signers were given bum information and did not know the background story. But the organizers don't seem to be on the side of goodness and light.
I'm still very pissed off because Gormley was screwed by his so-called supporters. The "New View From The Hill" slogan was promoted by Strobel and the MRTC and the Kool-Aid Krowd. Gormley got in and was abandoned. I know that the evil puppeteer is Eddie, but many others are complicit in this.
I'd like this blog to have a little less emphasis on Pattie and a little more emphasis on the political shenanagans that are screwing Gormley. Let's not waste time on mister Bernardi. He's got his problems but he's a minor player in this opera. Let's use our efforts to expose the bigger players and their motivations.
can someone please post the names of the names of the people that signed the petition. I agree that JB is a waste of time and a very minor player. Hes only their thug. Lets move on from him and expose the peopl e behind this
jb has his name on it, belden's wife. But hey that's the past. If there is one thing I wish for it is to see jb fall flat on his face, and it's going to happen!!!!!
JB IS A WASTE OF LIFE!!!!!!!! He and L.M. should ride out into the sunset!!!!!!!!!
The problem we have here is that the minor players are doing all the heavy lifting. Forget about who signed the petition, they were duped anyway. Concern yourself with those who circulated it. Those are your sewer rats, spreading disease, infecting the rest of us...
p.s. a fish rots from the head down.
can we identify the people at the head of the class Watson
Here's my score card.
JB and LM and PW and some others are flunkies who got caught up in the tax cutting initiative. They enjoyed being part of "something" and did not see that they were being duped. I've been told that this is their life story. We should not dwell on them.
We need to focus on the top of the organization. We know that Eddie is the Capofamiglia and we know that Jim Smith, Ken Heidkamp, Jim Crocchia, and some other MRTC members are Sotto Capo, and perhaps Smith is actually the Consigliere. Then we have the Capodecina which would include Stowell and Calabrese.
The rest of the players are either clowns or indeterminate forces. I'd call Deangelis a media clown. Same for Strobel and Rivard. They are dumber than dirt, but they get some press. People such as Bollard, Rivard, Santos and Bowler could be captains, but cannot be trusted by St. John. Some Row A people would do anything to be loved again. Paul Babarik would be one of those. Then there are the "outside looking in" folks, such as Carrington, Clark, Cipriano and Nicol. They don't like the new situation and won't get involved unless things go back. Fran Brennan is lurking around. Wild cards are Joe Rock and Terry Manning. They are tip-toeing so far.
What a circus! Let's keep an eye on them.

It's time to move the battle ground from the Fire house to the Shepardson Community Center. That's where the MRTC has thier monthly meetings. As I've said before, cockroaches hate light. You could have a front row seat for the least greatest show in town. See for yourself if the beady-eyed vermin carry through on the promise to "Support Tom"! I know what you're thinking, that the real RTC headquarters is in a engineering shop somewhere 'off-shore' (actualy, it's Watertown). This may be true, but once a month, they crawl out of the slime and slither over to Shepardson. See you there...
p.s. sorry for the flames. Sometimes it's hard not to get 'heated'.
Did anyone read the Letter to the Editor in todays Bee? Marcucci and Murphy make some good points, especially about how the local RTC's are run. Just take a look at ours.......Registered Republicans have no say at the caucus over who our RTC "annoints". If you are not one of the "beloved", you have no choice but to primary. Our RTC needs to be mindful of the fact that unaffiliateds are still the largest bloc in this town. They may soon becom sick and tired of the antics by the RTC. Ask Ron Clark whether he thinks he'll be nominated for another term on the Police Commission. He has no illusions about the current RTC. The Republicans of this town need to take control of our party back from the "elitist" few, who think they know what is best for the rest of us. I know some of you will say that we tried and failed, but I say that just means we have to try harder. Why do I discuss the RTC here? Because Middlebury politics is dominated by the Republican Party. And, the current RTC will be nominating candidates for public office, who will, quite possibly, be controlling the town just a year from now. The Democrats are making inroads, which I believe, in Middlebury at least, is a good thing. But they still do not have a big enough base to wrest control of town government away from the Republicans. Therefore, it is incumbent on the "disenfranchised" Republicans of this town, most of whom are completely bi-partisan, to regain control, and work for the betterment of Middlebury. We all need to stop focusing our attention on the individuals, and look at the collective whole. The issues are clear. Bi-partisanship is the only way to effective loal government. Tom has made great strides in this area, despite the constant roadblocks thrown up by the "elite". This momentum must be sustained if we are ever to bring Middlebury forward to where we need to be, and once were.
I could not agree more. The MRTC will be taking their political enemies off boards and commissions as terms expire. They will be replaced by - take a guess - that's right, Eddie's Row B cronies.
If you think Middlebury is sick now, just wait, as Will Smith said in Bad Boys II, "It's about to get sicker"
Tommy doesn't have a prayer. Tommy is doing good work with the commercial development and the exposing of Eddie's crimes. But the MRTC will endorse Bill Stowell next year, you can bank on it.
We know that Tommy can stand up to Eddie. I doubt if Stowell will do as well. He won't want to lose all his "friends".
We're screwed. The only prayer is Tommy running as an independent or a viable democrat appearing.
Let us pray.
Bill Stowell is a nice enough guy, but he won't cross Eddie. I wonder how the MRTC will justify abandoning Tommy? I'd state that Gormley is doing pretty well, considering the hand he was dealt.
You've gotta wonder about MRTC Chairman Bob Smith. He's also a nice guy, but he cannot control this situation. Nothing of consequence happens at the public meetings. It all happens out on Quassapaug Road across the Watertown line where brother Jim Smith chairs the agenda. Eddie and his captains are plotting and scheming for the revenge killings and Stowell's ascendence. Bob Smith will need to confront this situation if he truly wants to pull Middlebury out of the ditch. But if Stowell gets in we can expect an unleashed St. John and unimaginable evil.
Fortunately the wildcards remain in the deck. Bollard and Strobel and Rock won't play along with Eddie and Stowell. Let the games begin.
Looks like Marcucci is thinking about a state Republican appointment. His letter was co-written by ultra conservative Sean Murphy of Woodbury. Marcucci could have done good things for Middlebury. Too bad the MRTC scumbags pushed him out. Marcucci looked good at the town meeting, didn't he?
Don't forget that Mike was hand-picked by the Doctor himself to lead the charter revision committee.
That was then and this is now. Mike was Fran Brennan's campaign manager, apparently an unforgivable sin as far as Eddie is concerned. Mike was kicked off the MRTC, despite his competence. Eddie does not forgive or forget.
