A True And Well Thought-Out Message From "Mr. Anonymous"

Did anyone read the Letter to the Editor in todays Bee? Marcucci and Murphy make some good points, especially about how the local RTC's are run. Just take a look at ours.......Registered

Republicans have no say at the caucus over who our RTC "annoints". If you are not one of the "beloved", you have no choice but to primary. Our RTC needs to be mindful of the fact that unaffiliateds are still the largest bloc in this town. They may soon become sick and tired of the antics by the RTC.

Ask Ron Clark whether he thinks he'll be nominated for another term on the Police Commission. He has no illusions about the current RTC. The Republicans of this town need to take control of our party back from the "elitist" few, who think they know what is best for the rest of us. I know some of you will say that we tried and failed, but I say that just means we have to try harder.

Why do I discuss the RTC here? Because Middlebury politics is dominated by the Republican Party. And, the current RTC will be nominating candidates for public office, who will, quite possibly, be controlling the town just a year from now. The Democrats are making inroads, which I believe, in Middlebury at least, is a good thing. But they still do not have a big enough base to wrest control of town government away from the Republicans.

Therefore, it is incumbent on the "disenfranchised" Republicans of this town, most of whom are completely bi-partisan, to regain control, and work for the betterment of Middlebury. We all need to stop focusing our attention on the individuals, and look at the collective whole. The issues are clear. Bi-partisanship is the only way to effective loal government. Tom has made great strides in this area, despite the constant roadblocks thrown up by the "elite". This momentum must be sustained if we are ever to bring Middlebury forward to where we need to be, and once were.

Mr. Anonymous is correct. The Middlebury Republican Town Committee [MRTC] controls the members of local boards and commissions and will determine who will run as Selectman and First Selectman.

Most people remember the power struggle last year when Fran Brennan and a fire department-dominated slate managed to get positions on the MRTC during an open election. To put it mildly, it unleashed a furious primary effort by an assembling of former enemies with a common cause to defeat Brennan and regain power. The anti-Brennan team won and the rest is predictable history. MRTC meetings became perfunctory affairs with no visible work and zero support for Tom Gormley. The real action was behind the scenes in a hidden nominating committee with the sole purpose of retribution against Row A.

Everything else has been infighting and a struggle for power. The most evil of all has been Ed St. John, full of hubris, and working the puppet strings to get back into power. Most predicable has been an effort to make Tom Gormley look bad. Not as predictable was the continued effort to get back at Paul Perrotti, the person in Eddie's view who exposed his lack of PhD credentials. The demon never forgets his enemies.

yea and the screwed up (political) lawsuit had nothing to do with pissing off Eddie ????

So all of Middlebury will go into chaos because of Eddie's dalliances in the 70's?

Great.

In an ideal world the MRTC would have enough balls to cool Eddie off and stop the retributions. But not in our "upper middle class" town. The tribal wars continue. Nothing to be proud of folks!

It has nothing to do with in-fighting, as these people don't 'own' the MRTC. The true owners are the voters. Im not sure of the numbers, but I think there are over two thousand registered Republicans in town, versus twenty-one on the RTC. And while it's true you have absolutly no say during RTC meetings, you can still make your voice heard. Start by sending RTC Chairman Smith an e-mail with your thoughts and ideas. And don't forget to cc State Senator Kane and State Rep. D'Amilio, the local newpapers or anyone else of interest.
There is power in numbers, and Middlebury likes to vote. Durring the presidential elections, we sent almost 4,500 people to the poles. During the referendum, it was almost 1,200.

Well, well, well!

I'd like to report that some of the people mentioned on this blog do not like to see their names here.

Keep up the good work, bloggers! They're reading this. Maybe it will cause a little examination of consciences.

>> no say during RTC meetings... contact
>> State Senator Kane and State Rep. D'Amilio
>> the local newpapers

Sounds good, but completely ineffective in the reality of Middlebury. Don't look to Kane or D'Amelio to help, they kiss ass to the MRTC, whoever is in power. Forget the newspapers. Voices is a joke. Republican-American likes chaos.

Remember "Row A"? They didn't get very far, did they? Fran Brennan tried the power of numbers but he didn't kill the beast. Instead he awakened the beast and the beast is angry.

I really think our only hope is continued infighting among the MRTC members. We need another primary to occur and fracture "Row B" because unless we get enough decent people on the committee nothing good will happen.

Getting back to the power of numbers -- we're talking about another town committee primary and enough enlightened voters to force out the scumbags. Didn't happen last year with a large voter turnout. The scumbags were not ejected. They're now sitting around the table. Fortunately for us they hate each other.

So much for infighting. A majority of MRTC members signed the petition for the referendum, and some of them were actually circulators...

Anonymous said...

I didn't buy my copy of the referendum yet. Are you telling me that more than 11 of the 21 regular members signed that petition? Holy crap!

Here's the facts, ma'am, only the facts.
MRTC Circulators: Ray Rivard, Jim Crocicchia, Paul Bowler, Ken Heidkamp (alt).
MRTC Signers: The above mentioned circulators plus; Terry Manning, Joe Bernardi, Bill Stowell,Jim Smith, Kelly Bollard, Tom King, Mike McDonald, Ted Mannillo and last but not least, Edward B. St. John...

Hey Matt!
Hey Jaimie!
Hey Marj!

Here's your story on a silver platter. No work required.

"Middlebury Republican Town Committee members openly oppose First Selectman Gormley"

Shall I write the rest of this story or can you plagiarize the rest of it from this blog?

You won't see that story in the Rep/Am. Maybe publisher Pape hase taken a few 'pleasure' cruises on the good ship 'Lolly-pop'...

The last time the Waterbury paper won a Pulitzer prize was back in 1939. It isn't likely to happen again any time soon with the current publisher. No wonder newspapers are folding and internet blogs are gaining readers. The reason is right here before your eyes sir.
