“The devil is in the details....or, we need a bus
for 8 or 9 people? Who is paying for this bus?
It was very interesting to see how Perrotti spends money ( other
than his own )when he feels threatened.
A few months ago when a citizen actually wanted to see some
financial documents that were public info Perrotti was forced to
attend an FOI hearing in Hartford.
He could have driven there in his car as did everyone else. However
a bus...A BUS...was rented to take ALL HIS SUPPORTERS TO
HARTFORD.
Well the bus was "filled" with about 10 firemen, maybe 9. We don't
know how much the bus cost but we couldn't help but notice that
the 8 or 9 firemen who "supported" the half-chief were doing "OK'
in terms of the amount of money they were making in fire pay.
Coincidence? Maybe.”
As usual Mr. DeAngelis gets it wrong. The bus in question was a bus Middlebury Firefighters rode up in to Mr. DeAngelis’s frivolous FOI hearing. The bus was not carrying 10 supporters of Chief Perrotti. It was carrying 10 MVFD firefighters, who took the day off from work to support the Middlebury Volunteer Fire Department. It was an incredible waste of time; a hearing in which Mr. DeAngelis’s lawyer spent over 3 hours finding out important facts such as Mr. St. John was once First Selectmen, Ken Heidkamp once saw a copy of the MVFD bylaws, and Mr. Belden could read the MVFD budget. Read more here.
As for the bus. Who paid for it? Answer - the bus company. They kindly donated the services to the MVFD. It was not taxpayer money, nor MVFD money. DONATED.
To fully understand the enormous stupidity of
purchasing a "fly" car in Middlebury , take into account the
following
a. We, as a town, cannot even fully staff the one ambulance we have.
Many times that is the problem. We cannot scramble a crew. There are not enough residents in town who are willing to donate their time to run on the ambulance. That is why a First Responder Vehicle can help improve patient care. I
b. We, as a town, don't have a para-medic anyway.
c. We, as a town, must rely on Campion Ambulance Service for a
para medic anyway,
Mr. DeAngelis is under the false impression that every call requires a paramedic and Campion. That is not how it works. There are BLS calls, which is basic life support, and their are ALS calls - advanced life support. Many calls require only an EMT, and no paramedic services at all.
e. Our Police Force are the town's "first responders", as they
should be.
Most of our police officers have MRT certifications. I believe only three police officers have EMT certifications. A MRT certification requires only about 40 hours, while an EMT certification requires over 160 hours. EMTs have a higher level of training. It is in the best interest of the patient to have an EMT respond as a First Responder.
In addition the Police Department has already stated they welcome the MVFD First Responder vehicle, because it frees up their officers to do other assignments in Town.
If there is a medical call at your home two police officers will be responding. That basically takes all the police officers off the road. A MVFD First Responder frees up the second officer, so he/she can resume other duties.
The cost of the First Responder Vehicle is covered by the MVFD, so no taxpayer money will be used except for the fuel needed to operate it.
The number one priority is to improve patient care. The ultimate scenario and the best bang-for-the-buck for Middlebury residents is for FD 11 to roll with a crew. That way Campion expenses are covered by the MVFD and not by the patient.
If a crew cannot be scrambled, using the First Responder Vehicle, at least one trained EMT will be responding to help the PD and Campion.
There is nothing “stupid” about attempting to improve patient care. Everyone in this community can help improve patient care. Volunteer your time and take an EMT course at Fire HQ. The MVFD will pay for it, and help you pass the course. You will not only be improving yourself, but also helping your fellow residents.

You've made some valid points about the fly car. To para-phrase a certain former selectman, this is a 'win-win' for the people of Middlebury. Only a true horse's ass (apologies to the equine community) would complain about having a higher level of medical care available in town. You would think a crusty old goat at the end of his run would want more emergency care available.
Another plus to having the fly car is the police will be free to respond to break-ins at the Town Hall...
And sign stealing. And vandalism.
By the way, how did the girls do?
Tickets for VIP to watch the girls do community service will start at 50 Dollars. 75 for a couple
Maybe they can cut the grass at the Firehouse. ( if it's o.k. with the union...)
Pattie has recently been reporting traffic accidents on OURMONEYPIT. He made a big headline when Paul Perrotti hit a deer and he noted Michael Marcucci running off his driveway.
Why did he omit one of his "faves" from the police blotter?
MIDDLEBURY - According to police, Keli Bollard, 49, of 170 Curtis Rd., was not injured after a 10:21 a.m. car accident Sunday, December 28.
Her car struck a guardrail. The Department of Transportation was notified. Officer Ron Pruchnicki, Jr., investigated.
We certainly don't want to leave anyone out from blog reporting.
Deangelis criticizes Middlebury for considering a HOMEConnecticut study grant. Look at the other "stupid" towns that have done the same:
Goshen, Norfolk, Salisbury, Sharon, Tolland, Beacon Falls, Bridgeport, Colchester, Darien, East Lyme, Ledyard, New Britain, New London, Old Saybrook, Oxford, Plainville, Plymouth, Simsbury, Wallingford, Westbrook, Cannan, Canterbury, East Hampton, East Hartford, and Newtown.
Those towns must be run by knuckleheads too.
Deangelis comments:
As far as we could tell the most difficult task for the judge was to refrain from laughing when the "charges" against Ms. Mattson were read. A 2 dollar sign? Come on, what kind of crap was that?
Can you imagine the outcry if someone from the St. John/Strobel Campaign had stolen one of the Campaign 2005 signs back in 2005?
It would have resulted in blaring purple headlines. "Crime of the Century!" "Civil Rights Violated" "Corruption"
So now they are saying political signs are fair game? I can't wait to see what he has to say when signs start disappering from his lawn...
Tommy and Eddie were in the Republican American today. Unfortunately not on the Rep-Am web site so I can't link it for you - you'll need to find a copy.
The gist of the article is well known to readers of this blog. Eddie has FOI's a ton of information from Town Hall, but has not picked up any of it. Tommy shows reporter Matt O'Rourke a huge stack of paper sitting on his desk, waiting for Eddie to pick it up. According to Matt's soft-hitting reporting, Eddie is waiting for ALL of the FOI documents to be in the stack before he picks them up. However, according to Tommy, Eddie keeps asking for something new all the time, making the stack of unread documents higher and higher.
Here's the laugh, folks, I am not making this up:
Eddie claims that he would not have FOI'd those documents if Tommy had not "wasted" $13,000 on the forensic audit!
Is that the most ridiculous bullsh*t you've ever heard? Eddie has wasted thousands of dollars on unread FOI documents because Tommy "wasted" dollars on the Forensic audit.
Let's see how Pattie spins this one. Un-F'ing-believable. And this guy wants to return for another go at First Select-vermin?
The Republican-American web site just published the article.
St. John requests, but hasn't looked at, Middlebury records
BY MATTHEW O'ROURKE
REPUBLICAN-AMERICAN
MIDDLEBURY — A foot-tall stack of papers on a corner table in the first selectman's office is the latest focus of political controversy here.
The pile contains documents requested under the Freedom of Information Act by former First Selectman Edward B. St. John.
St. John has asked for a variety of records, from bidding information and specifications on a new pumper truck for the Middlebury Volunteer Fire Department to financial and legal statements related to a sewer and road project near Washington Drive.
First Selectman Thomas P. Gormley said the requests, first filed in October, are a source of frustration because St. John has not inspected any of the documents.
Gormley said he has told St. John in e-mails that his requests have been fulfilled, but each time St. John writes back and asks for something else.
"I don't know what his thought process is," Gormley said Wednesday. "I just know we're waiting for him to come in to get what he asked for."
---------------------------------
Read the article for the entire sorry story.
If there was ever any question as to whether Eddie is throwing sand in the gears at Town Hall, this is it.
Imagine how much time has been spent by Barbara Whitaker, by Claudia Tata, by Michael Belden, by Edith Salisbury, by Steve Savarese -- to fulfill Eddie's FOI demands.
Isn't it great to know that this is all being done to benefit Middlebury.
"A Middlebury citizen, not that pesky DeAngelis but someone else , asked for some information. Gormley replied with SOME of the information: This is part of what the individual had asked for:
1. Copy of the Specifications for the Fire Pumper including equipment.
2. Copy of the list of vendors who were invited to Bid on the Fire Engine.
3. Copy of the Invitation to Bid that was sent to all vendors and published in the Newspaper.
4. Copy of a list of all vendors who responded to the "Invitation to Bid"
5. Copy of all Bids received on the Fire Engine.
6. Copy of the Bid from Ferrara Fire Engine Company including references from Fire Departments who have purchased similar equipment.
7. Copy of the Board of Finance approval for the purchase of such equipment.
8. Copy of the Board of Finance Approval on available funding(Funds on Hand)
9. Copy of the Board of Finance Approval for supplemental funding
to cover the purchase including the dollar amount..(Short Term Borrowing-Bonding etc)
10. Copy of the Bid Bond from Ferrara Fire Engine
Company.(Guarantee Bid)
11. Copy of the Performance Bond as supplied by Ferrara or Letter of
Credit)..
12. Copy of the payment schedule from Ferrara Fire Engine
Company including down-payment and payments due during
construction of the apparatus..
13. Financial rating of Ferrara Fire Engine Company
14. Copy of the proposed contract between Ferrara Fire Apparatus
and the Town of Middlebury .
15. Copy of the Resolution approved by the Board of Finance to
authorize borrowing to purchase a Fire Engine (Dollar amount).
16. Copy of the Resolution approved by the Board of Selectman to
authorize borrowing to purchase a Fire Engine."
Wonder where this list came from and how DeAngelis got a hold of it? Looks like a part of the entire FOI we all read about in the paper today. Funny thing is that 2- 5 occurred when his highness was still at Town Hall.
Has Pattie Forgotten?
Whatever happened to his big lawsuit where he sued the selectmen, the attorneys, and the planning and zoning members?

17. At a duly constituted Town Meeting in 1996 in Middlebury CT action was taken and it
was legally voted that “the Town of Middlebury is the owner of a certain piece or parcel of land consisting of approximately 35 acres, which land is a portion of a larger piece or parcel acquired by the Town and designated for senior housing …WHEREAS the town has
previously sold to the Middlebury Senior Housing Associates, Inc. a contiguous parcel which is currently being developed as senior housing".
18. At the 1996 Town meeting it was then voted to authorize the selling of the 35 acre parcel of land for “not less” than 1.2 million dollars so that the land could be developed for
“senior housing”.
19. The contiguous parcel of land previously mentioned as being sold was used for the
building of 72 units of Senior Housing. Said Senior Housing was intended and eventually sold to those individuals who had reached a minimum 62 years of age. Therefore it was reasonable to assume at the time of the said 1996 vote that:
a. the 35 acre parcel being authorized for sale for senior housing would abide by the age
62 definition of “senior” held at the first sale of land (1995)and which resulted in the construction of 71 units of senior, age 62, housing units at the site,
b. the selling price was determined by current market forces in effect at the time, i.e., that while the minimum” price was fixed at “not less than 1.2 million” no agreement nor vote
taken stipulated that the minimum price was forever fixed at 1996 market levels.
20. When 6 (six) years later in 2002 the Selectmen of the Town of Middlebury acting
under of color of law agreed to sell the remaining acreage of the land outside the intent of the 1996 meeting relative to the meaning of senior housing they, the Selectmen, acting under color of law furthermore agreed to sell the land for the price established six (6) years
previous to the signing of the contract in 2002 in spite of the rise in real estate values, in
spite of the land now being served by sewer, water and gas lines.
21. The said contract stipulated that land use approvals must be secured before the said
transaction could be consummated. The Selectman, then named the Buyer as the agent for the land still owned by the town EVEN THOUGH (emphasis added) at the 1996 Town Meeting it was clearly stipulated that it was the Town alone that had the authority to market the land.

Ah yes. That was yesterday. Pattie was legitimately focused on Straw Pond back then.
Today Pattie is totally focused on $6 fire call incentives.
The biggest problem today is the MVFD spending its own money on fast initial response vehicles.
Yes, this is the new definition of corruption in Middlebury. Straw Pond doesn't matter any more. Pattie and Eddie will issue FOI after FOI to get to the bottom of this new definition of corruption.
We don't need legal terminology any more. Hell no. Pattie would rather use the language of middle school: "Dumb Ass", "Half Chief", "Bone head", "Dunce".
I suppose he's playing to his true audience, the Ignoramuses of Middlebury.
Wake up Middlebury!
Thank you Time Machine.
It should be obvious to everyone that Pat Deangelis has completely sold out and is taking his orders directly from Edward B. St. John.
Deangelis would certainly have attacked St. John back in 2005 if he had found out about the Washington Drive affair. There would have been huge purple headlines. $950,000 of town time and materials going to a developer of cluster housing.
Today, as you say, Deangelis is focused totally on the MVFD and on any rookie slip ups that Gormley makes. But Gormley and the MVFD are not committing crimes. There is no corruption.
What we have is the former First Selectman on a fit of revenge. Paul Perrotti made St. John look bad by exposing his lack of PhD. Gormley never asked St. John for advice upon becoming First Selectman. Those apparently are unforgiveable sins that must be punished harshly.
The only unanswered question is why Deangelis is so obviously helping St. John?
Deangelis refers to Fire Chief Paul Perrotti as "half-Chief" since he only obtained 30 of the 57 votes which amounted to 52.6% of the total vote. President Obama got 52.9% of the total votes cast, so I guess Deangelis now refers to President Obama as "half-President"!
One of the nice things about Pattie's name calling is that it helps identify his followers. For example, I was minding my own business at one of Middlebury's watering holes when I overheard a person using the word "half-chief" in his bar room conversation.
Upon hearing that term I could not help adjusting my opinion of him from "ordinary blue collar barfly" to "ignoramus". Since he started getting drunker and louder I suppose other patrons may have made the same adjustment.
