“Gov. Rell has asked the legislature to cap TOWN TAX INCREASE.
TO 3 PERCENT. Rell is adamantly opposed to 6 percent increases as she sees in palaces like Middlebury.
Vote NO today. Save yourself.”
Palaces??? I guess Governor Rell would be thrilled that the Town of Middlebury lowered their taxes by 3.16%. That is over 6% less than the Governor’s cap. Yet again, Mr. DeAngelis ignores this little fact, while acting as if Region 15 does not exist.

Ummmm excuse me, in this budget the Town of Middlebury is not proposing to lower taxes. In fact the taxes may go up almost 6 %. Period. Call is school, town, whatever.......fact is they are going up.
Foxwoods just laid off 700, Middlebury should do same.
Cut spending !
"Rell Orders $35M More In Budget Cuts" 9/30/08 latest headlines !!!
Gee, when revenue isn't there, cut spending.
Finance 101
The Town side is lowered by 3.16%. That is lower, and offsets partially the big increase for Region 15. To keep saying that Tom Gormley is raising taxes is just not true. Tom Gormley has not raised any taxes, Region 15 has. It is disingenuous, and misleading. The Region 15 side is set in stone. The town side is reduced. The final result is a 5.98% increase.
If Region 15 raises its budget by another 10% next year, would you propose cutting the Town side by 10% as well? Where is the cut off? At what point do stop and say, its time to look at the Region 15 budget? I would say that time is now.
Stop trying to beat Tom Gormley up when he is the first Selectman in my lifetime to ever lower town side taxes by over 3%.
He has been able to do so, without the $650,000 rainy day fund that was squandered last year, with a loss of $135,000, and another loss of $371,377 in various fees. And who can forget Mr. St. John's win/win deal that now may cost Middlebury $948,125?
With all these financial losses that were heaped in front of him, he has managed to still reduce the town side of the budget. He should be commended.
Those are the facts. I know facts are getting in the way of the St. John agenda, but they remain facts none-the-less
I'm buying Tom Gormley a drink for putting up with all this bullsh*t.
Tom is the hero in this town. I think we know the villains and the clowns. Let's hope this circus ends and the town commissions can do the necessary downsizing in a measured and thoughtful way.
That's right. Hoo ray for Tom. Good job. The same can not be said for most of the commissioners in this town, as they are, for the most part, Dr. St. Johnists. Every board has members loyal to the Post Hole Digger. The only way for this town to move forward is to clean house and to stop feeding the rats. How can you allow board of finance members to be on other boards, such as Public Works? These guys approve thier own budgets! Time for some real change...
