1. Pat cant get it through his thick skull that the town budget is a reduction. If he felt so strongly about taxes maybe he should have gone to Board of Education meetings and voiced his opinion in a calm rational manner. The education budget passed, end of story that all she wrote till next year, we are stuck with that now, so get over it. The school budget is where the increase is coming from... not the town.
2. In order to SAVE the taxpayers money the Fire Department investigated the possiblity of a new fuel tank to stop burning premium deisel in a boiler. I think sthis is almost self explanatory, guess Pat likes wasting money I don't know.
3. The town DID hire a private consultant to evaluate the towns radio needs. Does the name Oliver Associates ring a bell.. doesnt sound like Northeatern, Utility, Motorola, Kenwood etc. Does Pat expect our police officers to risk their lives and endanger the citizens of the Town of Middlebury by continuing to use outdated equipment that has many dead spots?!
4. If Pat thinks the Fire Apparatus thing is one big game, then he is sorely mistaken. This is not only my safety, and the safety of every citizen of the Town of Middlebury because when Engine 3 fails going to a call like it has before someone can get seriously hurt or killed. $500,000 is nothing compared to what a good lawyer could cost this town if God forbid something happened. Not to mention that the age of the apparatus has a direct link to the rates Pat and everyone has to pay for insurance. NFPA states that frontline apparatus should be no more than 20 years old, we take good care of our equipment, but there is only so much we can do.
Engine 3 -1988 first out for the vast majority of calls
Engine 4 -1987 a very close second out for calls
Rescue 1 -1987 rolls for every rollover accident with unknown entrapment or confirmed entrapment along with other calls
Engine 2 -1981 reserve peice because of safety reasons and NFPA requirements it cannot be front line due to the open cab
Engine 1 -1991 responds to all vehicle fires and is first due in several areas of town due to lack of hydrants.
So Pat and Ed go ahead keep playing your little games, the real men and women of this town are living in the real world and have to suffer now because of you. If pat can have his rants... I can have mine.
I've Had Enough

A Note From - MiddleburyStayInformed Blog
Rescue 1 is actually a 1978 vehicle, not 1987 as shown above. Looks like the writer mixed up the 8 and the 7.
