Region 15 Is Going After Your Money Again.

"SOUTHBURY (Republican/American Sept, 23, 2008)
Too many sick-outs keep board from doing business
The Region 15 Board of Education met Monday night but could not take action on pending matters because it lacked a quorum.
Only half of the board’s 10 members attended the meeting. The other five called in sick, according to Superintendent Frank Sippy.
The board was scheduled to vote on increasing pay to play fees and approving new employees to work in the region. Board members approved doubling student activity fees from $50 to $100, and increasing student parking fees from $125 to $200 in May as a way to increase revenue for the district, but has not officially made the measure a policy.
The board will vote on the measures at its next meeting Oct. 14."

Region 15 keeps demanding more money. When Middlebury is seeking ways to relieve the tax burden on its residents, Region 15 seems to be doing the opposite. The whopping increase in our taxes this year is directly related to the huge increase in the School Budget, yet that does not seem to be enough for them. They keep putting the screws to area families.

The Region is doubling student activity fees, and almost doubling the parking fees.  This directly affects our families whose children participate in such activities and who wish to park at the school grounds (property that our tax dollars have already paid for).  Where was the referendum to approve such an increase?  Where was the opportunity for Middlebury residents to vote against such a move? It is an additional tax being levied on our families at a time when our families are wondering how they will pay for heating oil and gas at the pump.  Why is it that all of us have to cut back and sacrifice, yet the Region marches on, its spending unabated, and unchallenged?

Where is the Middlebury Tax Alliance now?  Where are all the critics of Tom Gormley who tried to lessen the burden on Middlebury residents by cutting the Town Budget by 3.16%?  Where is the outrage and the FOIs demanding to see how are tax dollars are spent by the Region?

There is none, because reducing taxes is not the agenda. The agenda is to try to create chaos and to attempt to make the current administration (except Elaine, who seems to be missing in action) look bad. This is hypocrisy in its truest form.

In what world did you come from. Dr. St John controlled everything. Im sure The Little people of the P and Z had no choice from all the politcal pressure. Hench the over develepment in this town during the St John years. If you blame the P and Z director for the currant tax crisis then how can you blame the now First Selectman when all the problems were from the past administration. Stop blowing smoke when you obiously have no clue of whats really happening other than what you hear from other people......... AKA Hear say. Learn the true facts before you speak or type. There are way to many lies around town these days

If you do not know why the firemen hate this guy, you probably have not read Childish Actions, July 21, 2008.

Deangelis seems to have forgotten what "Campaign 2005" was all about.

But I remember. Town Hall was totally out of control after 22 years of Doctor St. John. Everybody was beholden to him. Every board and commission was a rubber stamp, except maybe the Conservation Commission - which put a stake in the heart of Straw Pond. Hey Pat, did you forget who was the chairman of the Conservation Commission? I'll remind you. It was Tom Gormley.

You should kiss Tom Gormley's ass Pat. He is a fine citizen, but you have now turned on him and offer no help at all. You are disgusting.

Doctor St. John raised taxes year after year and allowed developers to run rampant through Middlebury. Campaign 2005 went after him on this issue.

Now we're paying the price for Doctor St. John's mess. All those homes and all that construction and all those school children are Doctor St. John's legacy - but you are going after Gormley.

Wake up! Gormley inherited this mess. He also inherited Keli Bollard's raiding of the rainy day fund for last year. You felt good last year as you ate the seed corn but this year the cookie jar is empty. You should be praising Gormley for lowering the town side by 3%. But no, you have abandoned him.

What hypnotic hold does Doctor St. John have over you? You cannot possibly want him back in these economic times. St. John cannot solve anything.

And to the genius who said that Gormley allowed Brookside. No. Gormley had nothing to do with P&Z. It was Stowell and Carrington and Calabrese who did that - all of them Doctor St. John's lap dogs. Gormley and the Conservation Commission were strongly negative about Brookside. You don't need a FOI to read the minutes. Go back to the Town Clerk's office and do some reading. Read the selectmans minutes too - it was Strobel and St. John who gave us this mess, NOT Gormley.

The problem with the "Money Pit" is that even though Pat tries to pass it off as satire, there is nothing funny about it. When I watch SNL, I laugh, even if I disagree with what they may be saying. The same applies to Colbert and the other political satirists. Satire is meant to be funny, while still carrying a message. The day I, or most people, find the "Money Pit" funny, will be the day Pat stops publishing, because he doesn't mean to be funny at all. What makes the whole thing so sordid is the fact that people read that, and actually believe it as the gospel truth. Satire is not meant to be swallowed wholesale as the truth, but rather to be thought-provoking. And Pat can't really pass himself off as a true blogger, since he allows no dissenting views to ever be published on his pages. So, there you have it.............
