Most people in Middlebury are amazed that if they dial 911 from their house
to call for a fire truck the call goes
1. from their house
2. to the police station
3. to Prospect CT
4. to the fire dept
to firemen
Actually, once again Mr. DeAngelis has that wrong.
From your house --> To Middlebury Headquarters ---> To Quick Tone To Middlebury Firefighters.
That is how fast it gets to the MVFD.
The MVFD is notified immediately. The call is then patch to Northwest C-Med who will tone out the call again.
This is actually faster than the old system when the dispatcher remained on the phone to gather more information from the caller. Under the older system, the dispatch was slightly delayed, because of the time needed to gather additional information. Middlebury actually gets quicker service now.
However, if you are totally against any of the dispatching being done at Northwest C-Med, again you will have to thank former First Selectman Ed St. John. He was the one who outsourced communications. To comply with the new EMD requirements from the state of Connecticut, this had to be done. At least that is what the MVFD was told by Mr. St. John at the time. It was not Paul Perrotti nor Rick Bona who outsourced the dispatch. They did not have the authority. Only the First Selectman has that authority, and that was Mr. St. John.
