Troubled By Pictures

In the June 8, 2008 issue of Voices, Mike McCormack was quoted that he was “troubled” that the portrait of former First Selectman Ed. St. John was taken off the wall at Fire Headquarters. Instead of asking what Mr. St. John did to the MVFD to make them vote to take his picture down, he immediately decries the action.

The MVFD was very troubled over the antics of Mr. St. John over the past several years. The list is a lot longer than what was described in Voices.

Decorating ideas for the MVFD is not what Mr. McCormack should be concerned with. Perhaps, cutting the Town budget may just be a bit more important. Paying high taxes in this town is very troubling to all of us.

It seems odd that the man who is chairman of the Public Works Commission, also sits on the Board of Finance.  Is that a conflict of interest? Making financial decisions that directly affect the commission that he chairs should be troubling for everyone in Town.

It seems that the Firehouse was not the only location where Mr. St. John’s pictures were removed. His pictures came down at Town Hall, just as former First Selectmen Longo and Calabrese pictures also came down.

Cutting taxes is more important than what is hanging on the walls of the MVFD. That is where all of our efforts should go.
